Configuring your WiFi correctly is key to achieving a great quality of experience for your XMReality users.
WiFi networks are often not designed or optimized for real-time communication. Optimizing your WiFi setup for XMReality is an important consideration to create high quality XMReality call experiences for your users.
Recommendations to optimize WiFi for XMReality
In addition to general network planning of WiFi bands and access point placement, the following is recommended configuration:
- Enable WiFi Multimedia (WMM) if supported to ensure that XMReality traffic is getting prioritized.
- Enable the 5Ghz band, which is better suited for real-time communication.
- Enable band steering if using dual-band (2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz) on the same SSID. Band steering influence dual-band clients to use the 5 Ghz range over the 2.4 Ghz range.
- If possible, implement QoS with explicit prioritization of XMReality traffic or of real-time audio and video communication in general.
Note: Each WiFi equipment vendor has their own recommendations for deploying their solutions often provides specific configuration recommendations to optimize them for real-time communication. Consult your WiFi equipment vendor for specific guidance.
